Prepping for a test-run

We’re airing out the sleeping bags and starting to get the gear together! Our plan is a test-run tonight in a local state park.

I’ve printed a few lists of “Things to Pack” from various websites to use as a guide. Henry is a huge help. He’s very eager to cross things off the list. In fact, he started crossing things off before we gathered them or read them. Emma is not at all interested. Today is her day off from school and it’s HER time. So she is working on her new hobby: comic book writing. Andy set up the camper to air it out. It was a nice surprise to find it in good shape and not inhabited by little creatures.

Introduction

We are off on a great adventure this summer: a 7 week trip across country. Seems like no better time than the present! Emma (9) and Henry (7) have proven themselves to be great travelers. Lots of friends with older kids have expressed that it is more and more difficult to accomplish a trip like this once the kids get older and are involved with camp, sports, etc. So now is the time to seize the moment.

Initially, the kids were not very enthusiastic about the idea, but seem to be coming around. I’m lucky in that my job is pretty flexible. As long as I have my computer and wireless access, and most importantly: Liz holding down the fort in the home office, I can work.

We thought it would be fun to start a blog about our trip. This way interested family and friends can see what we are up to and we will have something to look back on later.
